Purpose
The Association is there to help couples build and sustain a deeper, more stable and more loving relationship.
Those who offer leadership and support always start with their own life as a couple. That is the basis for offering help to others
Values
We support the intrinsic value and potential of all truly loving relationships.
We believe in the value of marriage. It has traditionally been the main context for committed loving couples in our society, and it has formed the basis for stable and healthy family life. There are many committed loving couples who are not married. Our work is inclusive, and fully open to them.
There are wide benefits to this kind of support for couples. This work not only enhances the couple's relationship, but fulfils more of the potential of each individual. It promotes the well-being and the stability of family life. It provides a creative basis for local community life. and society as a whole.
Educational Method
At a Focus on Couples event, each individual and couple remain in charge of their own learning and growth. As they take part, we ask for a commitment to each other, and a respect for other couples taking part. But we accept the beliefs, culture and the feelings of each couple. We respect their autonomy.
These events enable couples
- to improve communication skills,
- to accept individual difference,
- and to handle conflict creatively.
It is our belief that these are fundamental factors in deepening their shared life. We also encourage the sharing of experience between couples.
Such an approach helps in facing problems already experienced. But it also prevents future relationship difficulties, and often leads to a new quality of relationship.
